ITI 2025 Day 15: Kaltag (630) to Unalakleet (706)

Follow @itialaska for general race updates, itidiaries.blogspot.com for Ryan updates.

TL; DR: Good day on the River, “great trail” & “cabin is…aw[e]some”

Ryan’s ride (all times in AKST):

*Departed Kaltag (630) @ 9:28a (12hr. stop)

*Snack @ Tripod Flats Cabin (656.4) @ 4:41p

*Arrived Old Woman Cabin (672) @ 7:45p. Shared fun night in cabin w/ Karl & Julie, departed at 9:24a (13.5hrstop).

*Arrived Pizza Heaven (Unalakleet, 706) @ 3:49p (Note: Trackleaders doesn’t change with DST)

Uneventful day on the trail. Plan was always to stay at Old Woman - he got bball updates, a weather report, gave some unsolicited gardening advice, and then I fell asleep. Whoops.  Today he reported a great tailwind (that his “backside is still thawing out from”)...between that and the imminence of pizza (check out those closing speeds #horsebarn): vroom!

Peace on Earth is an iconic stop along the trail, providing great respite in addition to great pizza.  The proprietor is a wonderfully passionate, kind, and hardworking soul who always takes the best care of Ryan.  Who else takes care of Ryan? Friends.  For the last four years y’all have beat me to ordering…THANK YOU again Waddells, Bertches, Webbs, and now Wallaces!!

Tomorrow, Ryan heads to Shaktoolik and then the Bering Sea crossing….hopefully just after the Iditarod dog race trailbreakers come through…

What Say You Ryan?

Day 14: Biggest score from someone’s dropbox to date…

  1. ***A premade mixed ziploc of sour patch kids, gummy bears (he scored this at a stop in 2024 and looked for it in every box after.  This year, he made his own, with some Mike&Ikes for a little flare)

  2. Oil of Olay body wash (ah, no.  He’s a loyal VO5er)

  3. Caviar. Yes, caviar (for real, no one shipped themselves caviar…yet)

  4. Softlips Chapstick (Diehard Dermatone. Hard stop)

Day 15: When I say Yukon River, you say…

A. “It’s always wider and longer than I remember"

B. “So much wildlife!”

C. “Fast miles whoop!”

D. “There’s gold in them hills!!”

Comment with your guess and I’ll reveal the answer tomorrow!!
